City areas
Orléans is divided into 6 cantons, but the tourist attractions are scattered all around the city.
- Place Martroi
This former cemetery is the main square in Orléans, where three big avenues come together: rue de la Republique, rue Royale and rue Bannier.
Highlights: Joan of Arc’s equestrian statue and the yearly Christmas market
- Rue de Bourgogne
It is a rather quiet street in the centre of the city.
Highlights: numerous restaurants
- Commercial centre
Right in front of Pont des Tourelles, the main bridge on the Loire, there used to be a fortress, nowadays a large covered market, Halles Chatelet.
- La Source
The largest quarter in Orléans, it is home for the University of Orléans and Parc Floral de La Source.

The 6 cantons the city is divided into are:
- Bannier – north-western canton on the right bank of the Loire comprising Blossières-Murlins, Acacias, Chateaudun - Faubourg-Bannier and Gare.
- Bourgogne – central-eastern canton on the right bank of the Loire comprising Bourgogne – République, Pasteur and St-Vincent.
- Carmes – central-western canton on the right bank of the Loire comprising Carmes-Bannier and Madeleine.
- La Source – canton on the left bank of the Loire
- Saint Marc Argonne – north-eastern canton on the left bank of the Loire comprising Barrière St-Marc, La Fontaine, Argonne – Nécotin – Belneuf and St-Marc – Faubourg-Bourgogne – Argonne-Sud.
- Saint Marceau – south-central canton on the left bank of the Loire.
